My Favourite Video Games

5. Overwatch

Overwatch is an online 6v6 team-based shooter, created by Blizzard Entertainment. In it, you can play as one of 23 heroes, each with their own role, and their own unique set of weapons and abilities. Some heroes are healers, on the team to keep the others alive. Others are tanks, meant to take the focus of the enemies. The rest are damage dealers, their role being to kill the members of the enemy team. Your goal as a team is to balance out these roles and create a roster that will be able to finish the objective of the map.

The thing that I love about this game is the competitive nature of it. Every game is just your team vs. theirs in a battle of skill. It is a fast-paced game, where you need to keep up with everything going on and adapt to the situation. Winning a game is thrilling, but even losing can still be fun.

Overwatch has a cartoony artstyle, which is a nice change from the harsh realism that a lot of shooters portray. Each character has a fun and unique appearance, and also a lot of unique voice lines. The characters interact with one another in a way that I haven't seen in a long time. On top of these lines in-game, each character has their own backstory, which can be found on the official Overwatch website. These kinds of things are what I love in a game. The creators clearly put a lot of effort into each hero, not just their in-game mechanics, but also their personalities, appearance, and overall character.

4. Hearthstone

Hearthstone is a casual, free to play game created by Blizzard Entertainment. It is a virtual trading card game, and its success caused a lot of games of this type to be created. In this game, you have nine different classes to choose from, all with a unique and interesting playstyle. Open card packs to gain access to over a thousand different cards to play with. You can play online against strangers, battle your friends, or take on some of the special solo adventures to unlock unique cards.

Hearthstone has a fun and lighthearted artstyle that I like a lot. Each card has art that is interesting to look at, and each card also has its own flavour, including voice lines that play when summoned, attacking, or on death. Every card in this game has its own little story and its own personality. This is one of the things that I love about Hearthstone.

The gameplay itself is pretty simple, which is great for players who want to get into a casual TCG. Cards have Mana costs, Attack, Health and Effects that are clearly defined on the card, and are usually easy to understand. The part I like about the game though, is how interesting it gets at higher levels. The players that are extremely good at the game are always thinking about which cards their opponent might have and how to play around them. On top of that, Hearthstone pros are often thinking one or two turns ahead, for both themself and their opponent.

This romance of both simplicity and difficulty is what drew me to Hearthstone and it is the main reason why I love this game.
